Notes: The San Francisco 49ers PossessionPoints average of
83.78 put them 19th out of 32 teams
in the NFL, and their 7-9 record is in line with that. There
were a couple of NFC playoff teams that were in the same range
(Eagles and Seahawks). The 49ers had some up and down games, and
their best PossessionPoint performance of the year was their "all
green" win over the Seahawks in week 15.
Looking forward to 2007 the 49ers needed to work on both offense
and defense, although we would say that the defense underperformed
relative to the offense. The 49ers draft was right in line with
this. They took a Linebacker with their first pick at number 11, and
then they took an offensive lineman with their second first-round
pick at number 28. Their next 2 selections in the third round gave
them players on each side of the ball. From there, they picked 3
more defensive players in the fourth round. Not that the NFL needs
more parity as there was plenty in 2006, but teams like the 49ers
did seem to address their needs and will be well worth watching in
2007. We at PossessionPoints are eager for the start of the
2007 season as we are sure all football fans are.
