Notes: For the Dolphins, 2006
proved to be a frustrating season as measured by the PossessionPoints stat. They managed to
get into the "green" offensive indicator zone only 3 times, and they lost
2 of those games. One of these losses was to the PossessionPoints powerhouse of last
season--the Colts. The Dolphins earned 2 of their wins with
performances that landed them in the Red Offensive Indicator Zone.
They won these games only because their opponents, the Chiefs and
the Bears, were mired deeper in the Red Zone than they were.
Looking forward to 2007 the Dolphins
would appear to have a lot of work to do, as their season average of 66 PossessionPoints per game
ranked them 28 out of the 32
teams. They have added Trent Green from the Chiefs which can't hurt.
In the draft they took offensive players with 6 of their top 7 picks
including standout kick returner / wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. from
Ohio State. The Dolphins have definitely tried to address their
offensive needs, the test will be how these changes play out in the
2007 season. We'll be tracking them.
