Notes: Well, the Rams were one of the unlucky ones. Their offensive indicator  got into the "green" indicator zone for the season; yet, they only managed an 8-8 record. They were 5 out of 32 with their 106.5 PossessionPoints per game average. The Rams had 3 games that went against the "90% Net Effect" statistic. The team fell on the unlucky side of the statistic twice (weeks 2 and 10) and fared on the lucky side (week12). So, we can't say it was only bad luck that caused them to miss the playoffs. The Rams of 2006 appear to be a team whose defense underperformed relative to what the PossessionPoints view of football believes they should have accomplished.

Looking ahead to 2007, the Rams are a team that we believe needs to upgrade their defensive performance. Their 106 PossessionPoints offensive effect was outstanding and should have allowed their defense to do much better than its "red" indicator100 PossessionPoint performance.  The Rams did take strides in addressing their defensive woes in the 2007 draft with their selection of a defensive end and cornerback as two of their top three picks.
